Peony Rubra Plena

Known as the Memorial Day peony because in many parts of the country its blooms coincide with this holiday, peony Rubra Plena is a smaller version of the classic herbaceous peony. This beauty has been grown and loved for more than 120 years and was frequently planted on graves of Civil War veterans. Rubra Plena peonies are living antiques, perfect for historic plantings as well as for more modern designs. Ideal for containers and small gardens, just allow for the unusually large roots that customarily develop by maturity. The red form of this species peony is the most vigorous and the one we recommend. Flowering stem may require support. Deer resistant. (Not to be confused with Paeonia tenuifolia Rubra Plena Flora, the fern-leaf peony, which has very different foliage.)

Enjoy a patriotic pairing, by planting with officinalis Plena Alba, the White Memorial Day Peony
