Rosy squill, as it is commonly called, is a tiny plant, with trusses of eight to ten palest pink flowers. Because of its small size and very early spring showing, this is an excellent choice for edging a pocket garden or growing in small containers. Unlike the bell-shaped flower form found in most scillas, those of rosea face skywards and lay open in tiny star patterns. If you are fond of heirlooms, note that this scilla has been grown in gardens for centuries, literally, since the beginning of the 1600's. Inexpensive, sweet and gently spreading through seeds that develop true to form, this little plant is hard not to love.
