Ornithogalum
Here's another group of terrific bulbs that's saddled with a tongue-twister name. But take time to learn the name; it's worth the effort. These European naturalizers are some of the most brilliantly simple and simply brilliant spring blossoms to be found.
All the ornithogalum varieties here flower with star-like blooms, some clustering along the top half of an upright stem and some creating umbrella or candelabra forms. With strappy, low growing, basal leaves these plants are easily covered by fuller leaved plants when the spring show has past for the year. Partner ornithogalum with daylilies and perennial geraniums for season-long beauty.
Tuck these where their light and growing zone requirements are met and they'll be happy for years to come. You'll have to buy your flowers from the craft store to find any that require less fussing.
Shipping: Freshly harvest bulbs are shipped early September through December for immediate planting.
