Camassia (Wild Hyacinth, Quamush)

Growing wild in parts of the Northwest and once an important food item for native Americans, camassia is still a relatively unknown garden plant in most parts of the country. A spring bloomer, with spires of starry flowers in blues and white that match the colors of a sunny day's sky, camassia is especially effective planted in masse or allowed to naturalize over time.

Most flower bulbs are happiest in soil that drains well. Camassia, however, thrives in water retentive soils and performs admirably along the edges of streams, ponds and bogs. If you have sandy soil, generous additions of peat and compost help to keep the water from draining away and create a successful environment for wild hyacinth.

Part of the fun of gardening is trying new varieties. Let yourself go.

Note: Prices below are for packages of 5 bulbs, all the the largest commercially available sizes.

Shipping: Fresh bulbs are ship from mid September through December for immediate planting.
