Paperwhite Narcissus Nir
This specialty paperwhite, one of the next generation cultivars, Nir is named after the son of our grower in southern Israel. Nir is a recent introduction that excels in speedy flower production, plus it delivers flowers a bit larger than that of the industry standard, Ziva. It also produces more flower stems per bulb, with 2 to 3 per bulb being the norm. Some noses believe this variety has a softer scent than traditional paperwhites.
Nir sometimes benefits from a support ring or stake when the supply of sunlight is less than ideal, or one can try the Cornell University technique for growing shorter paperwhites. Either is a small trade off for lots of beautiful, fast, fragrant flowers.
