Hardy or Perennial Geraniums (Cranesbills)

Say the word "geranium" and most people think of flats of annuals, the large flowered, rounded leafed, distinctively scented pot plants sold in garden centers across the country each spring. These are really pelargoniums. True geraniums are hardy perennials with finely cut leaves, dainty flowers, a mounding form and a desire to bloom abundantly year after year. These plants settle in quickly and weave around their garden buddies gracefully. If you don't have hardy geraniums in your garden, you're missing out. Don't wait another season.

Plant early to mid fall in cold areas and into December in warmer parts of the country. Planting while the ground is still warm allows roots to establish before the ground freezes.
