Fritillaria
Here's a group of under utilized plants that offers distinctive looks for the early season garden. Some, like the Crown Imperials, have bold, flashy blooms, while others, such as the checkered lilies, deliver intricate geometric patterns found nowhere else in the horticultural world. All are easily grown and worth finding a spot for in your garden.
Most fritillarias trace their origins back to the Mediterranean and to southwest Asia where they are found in meadows, woodland edges and high rocky slopes. Collecting from wild colonies has caused some fritillaria to become endangered, so buy with care. All our bulbs are nursery propagated so you can add these to your garden with a clear conscience.
Plant these bulbs as soon as you receive them; they prefer to be out of the ground for as short a period as possible. (We keep them happy in temperature and humidity controlled environments but these conditions are difficult to duplicate at home.)
Shipping: Freshly dug fritillaria bulbs are shipped from early September through December for immediate planting.
