Iris
The iris family is a large and complex one with flower forms, colors, heights and even fragrance to suit every taste. We offer three groups, all admirable performers in warm weather gardens.
Named after the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris, these flowers offer the complete color spectrum. Many combine mouthwatering shades with spectacular veining, speckles or edgings. Additionally, most iris sport ruffles, fringes and beards that make for fascinating forms.
All irises have six petals, three that point upwards, known as standards, and three that extend outwards or down, know as falls. Iris foliage is tall and narrow. It adds a strong vertical form to a garden's design and injects variety to what is often a sea of small oval leaves.
Favorites for generations, irises are found in both heirloom plantings and in cutting edge gardens. Choose any of the varieties here, you can't go wrong.
Note: Bearded iris rhizomes are shipped beginning in mid to late August and continue through October. Dutch and Japanese iris are shipped beginning in mid September and continue through November.
