Calla Lilies

While we don't subscribe to the prevalent fascination with youth, when it comes to calla lily tubers, younger is better. As calla tubers age, they develop a smaller number of “eyes” or growing points. This translates into less bushy plants with fewer flowers.

The Crystal Blush calla lily tuber on the left, below, is two years old, vigorous and in its prime. Each of the more than 10 eyes will develop into a separate shoot. It's easy to see how this one tuber will create a full, robust plant with many blooms.

The older calla lily tuber on the right is similar in size, but with only a couple of eyes. Even with excellent care this tuber will grow into a plant with very few flowers.

All our calla lily tubers are two year old, multi-eyed, and ready to develop into big, beautiful plants. These are the largest 2-year old tubers available, each 2 1/2”-3” across. We also pay our grower extra to pretreat tubers, like they do for professional cut flower growers, to encourage greater flower development (up to twice as many) and improve disease resistance.

For a few pennies more than the cost of typical 12-14cm (or 2” diameter) tubers, you can buy the best young, vigorous calla lily tubers that will produce superior plants. Rest assured that you'll be pleased with the results.
