Unusual Wedding Favors
Is there a wedding in your future? Yours? A friend's? For an innovative twist on the typical guest favors consider flower bulbs.
Bulbs are little bundles of energy ready to grow into something beautiful and lasting. In this way they are similar to the life two people build together. Flower bulbs are also perfect reminders of a special day and a full-of-promise beginning. Fresh, bright and often fragrant flowers are a joy to be shared with gardeners and black thumbs alike.
Below are a number of flower bulbs that are attractive (mostly smooth and rounded), easy to grow and able to be cultivated successfully in most parts of the country. Complete planting instructions for all these are available on this website. Just print the directions on color coordinated paper and include with each favor.
Spring Weddings
Gladiolus - tall stalks of ruffled blooms in every possible color and combination.
Begonias - ruffled blooms in a rainbow of colors. Bulbs flower all summer.
Peacock Orchids - white blooms with crimson stars at their throats; fragrant.
Oxalis - Pinwheel leaved plants with white, pink or purple blooms.
Summer Weddings
Oxalis - Pinwheel leaved plants with white, pink or purple blooms.
Autumn Weddings
Amaryllis - huge, spectacular blooms in many colors. Expensive, but in quantity and with enough lead time we can often get the price down considerably.
Anemones - white, rose, blue and mixed colors in a daisy-like form; there's even one variety named "The Bride".
Crocuses - yellow, white, purple or mixed color flowers known for providing early spring cheer at a very reasonable price.
Dutch iris - classic spring bloomers in white, yellow, blue, purple and blends. Bulbs are reasonably priced and flowers are lightly fragrant.
Freesia - white, yellow, pink and blue blossoms with the sweetest scent imaginable. Can be grown on sunny windowsills indoors.
Grape Hyacinths - gorgeous cobalt or powder blue flowers with a light fragrance. Bulbs are very well priced and plants are close to indestructible.
Hyacinths - wonderfully scented blooms in white, yellow, blue, pink, purple and peach. Some varieties have bulbs with deep purple skins (se photo below).
Golden Dawn paperwhites - golden yellow flowers with a strong, sweet fragrance. Fast and easy to grow indoors. Also good for gardens in warm areas.
Paperwhites - fluffy white blooms with a heady scent. Easy and fast to grow indoors and fine for warm weather gardens.

We can supply flower bulbs for you to wrap up as you please or we have shimmery drawstring organza bags in a rainbow of colors that can be sized to fit your bulbs. Gossamer shades photographed below include: light yellow, cream, silver (with bulb inside), pastel green, mint, olive, gold, peach, mauve, candy apple, light pink, lavender, violet and light blue. Of course, white, is also available.

Lily of the valley pips - in white or pink - are also popular for weddings. Our oversized pips bloom in about 4 weeks and emit a heavenly fragrance. They are available from late winter through spring, and can be planted in bowls for indoor forcing or outdoors in the garden.
