If you haven't grown amaryllis from exceptionally large bulbs before, here's an insider's secret: sometimes the flowers are almost too big. Giant blooms on tall sturdy stems are heavy. So weighty in fact, that they can actually topple a pot.
To avoid this extra excitement, we recommend additional weight be added to the bottom of the pot to counterbalance. Clean sand or gravel will work. If you don't have access to these, or are sending a gift and would like something prettier, beach pebbles are a beautiful solution.
Our beach pebbles are mostly deep blue gray, with a few rogue reds and tans mixed in. We view them as pebbles with personality, a bit more interesting than the typical plain black.
Also excellent for paperwhites, where pebbles do a first rate job of providing an anchoring medium for the roots to grow through. |
