Modern day bearded irises have this Mediterranean species to thank for their existence, as Variegata is the original source for most of our current hybrids' genes. A beauty in its own right, the popular Sweet Iris produces fragrant, violet blooms on three foot tall stems in early summer. But even when not in flower, this plant is a garden standout, with boldly striped sword-like foliage accented in creamy yellow. Pallida Variegata is not a reblooming variety like the others we offer, but it holds its own visually - and then some - all season. An excellent accent plant and gorgeous grown as a zebra-inspired edging along a driveway or patio, ideally where the late day sunlight glows through the leaves.
