Short in stature but tall on appeal, these South African species glads love the heat and dryness of desert-like landscapes; locations much like those of their native land. Maturing at two feet or a bit less, these tough beauties haven't been hybridized for great height and oversized blooms so their proportions are pleasing and they blend easily with other garden flowers. Stems produce 4-8 soft pink flowers with wavy edges, crimson throat markings and sometimes darker edges. Gladiolus carneus pink multiply over time, producing more flowers per plant and additional plants with the creation of new cormlets that develop from the base of the mother plant. Will create a patch of clear, rich color with little care and make it easy to share or create secondary plantings. Excellent choice for naturalizing and for well drained low water sites. Hard to find but well worth the effort.
